How to Memorize Anything in Life

Hello everyone in my last post I discussed some of the most amazing principles from "The 20 hours book" to learn anything in just 20 hours.
So here I present you another exclusive article about remembering anything in just one glimpse.
Dominic O'Brien once a World Memory Champion made a record of memorising 54 Decks of cards in total 2808 cards by looking them for only one time. He did achieved this unbelievable performance level because of a technique called MEMORY PALACE or LOCI METHOD
You might have seen Sherlock Holmes because everytime when he wants to memorise anything he uses this technique. When I used to saw Sherlock using this technique I thought that its just a FICTION or a SUPER POWER. I won't be able to get it and I used to wonder if I get this Power I can do amazing things in my life.
Now I think I was wrong about the fact that this Power is just a fiction rather it's real and anyone of us can use this.

This technique was invented over 2500 years ago and is still valid.
So lets not wait anymore and begin with the rules of this technique. There are 3 rules

1. Imagination
2. Association
3. Location

MEMORY PALACE
Imagination and Association these 2 rules would be discussed more deeply in my next article. For now in short if I tell you about these is to VISUALIZE things in order to memorise them. It is not as simple as it seems. You need to visualise things by using all of your senses like hearing, touching, smelling, watching and tasting.
Secondly Association which means in order to memorise something new you need to associate it with something that you already have in mind means you need to make it familiar to what you already have in mind. If you are not able to get an idea about these 2 rules so not to worry about just follow my articles and in the very next article your confusion would be totally vanished.

Lets talk about the 3rd principles which is Location. Our mind easily stores Jornies and Locations. For example when you go out to buy something or to do an important task and while you come back home you suddenly think about your wallet and put take your hand towards your pocket and you see there's no wallet. What you do is that you start thinking about where did you go step by step and think what did you do there and finally after analysing you think that the last time when I had my wallet in the pocket was when I went to that store so may be I've dropped it there. It happens because our mind easily memorise journeys and Locations.
Now if you associate all your journeys and Locations you will be memorising very quickly. You should try this for once and see the magic.
So Now lets take an example of how to use this technique. I'll be illustrating the example through some steps. Lets start!

Step 1. Selecting Your Palace(Location)
First and foremost select a Location you know very well about like your house, school or any place you are well familiar with.

Step 2. Numbering the Items
Now suppose you have selected your house as a PALACE. So what you need to do is to number the items in your house like
Stand at the entrance door of your house and start clockwise and suppose just by looking at left you see a clock so make it number 1 and then a window give it number 2 after that a painting on wall give it number 3 after that there is a couch give it number 4 or may be a TV after that give it number 5.
Now go to the other room and do the same steps and give serial numbers from 6 onwards and keep on increasing the serial numbers as much as you want your PALACE to be.
There are some RULES OF THUMB through which you can make a PALACE

a. DO NOT REPEAT ITEMS AND ROUTES
Means if you are moving from one room to another do not come back again to the same room. And if you have similar items in different rooms do not assign different serial numbers to them it will make you confuse.
b. SELECT ITEMS THAT ARE BIG
It means select those items which are not easily moved or will stay at their respective place in the future.

Now memorise all the items in a very good way so if I ask you what is number 5?
You can answer its a TV.

Step 3. Using Imaginations to Associate and Remember
Now take the example that you need to learn 10 words like
1. Guitar
2. Mobile
3. Pillow
4. Milk
5. Banana
6. Door
7. Clock
8. Truck
9. Planet
10. Magazine
Now imagine 1. Is guitar you need to associate guitar with the 1. Clock like everytime when a clock completes an hour it plays a sound of guitar
Secondly mobile, there is a person in 2. Window in your PALACE, imagine that person is using a mobile now at third there is a painting imagine a pillow like painting or a person is sleeping over a pillow.
And by just doing this you can learn 10, 20 or any amount of words you need to memorise.
Since we took an imaginary PALACE it was not much effective. So I'm giving you some more words
1. Keyboard
2. Speaker
3. Key
4. Couch
5. Water
6. Door
7. Guitar
8. Person
9. Apple
10. Dog
Take these words and memorise through your own PALACE and let me know in the comments below.
Here's a quick repeat take a PALACE (Location) give serial numbers to the items in the PALACE and thirdly Associate these given words with the items in your PALACE according to their serial numbers by imagination.
I've taken this technique from a Book called "You Can Have An Amazing Memory" by Dominic O'Brien.
Let me know how many words have you memorised by this technique.
