Learn anything in Life in just 20 Hours

Everyone of us want to learn something in our life like Guitar, Martial Arts etc. And we always tell ourselves that we will learn this one day but that one day never comes.
What if I tell you that your future depends on the skills you learn today.
And this is essential for everyone of us to have different skillset in order to compete in today's environment but the problem is When to start? And how to start?
Because most of us think that it will take alot of time and effort to learn something
WHICH IS NOT VALID!!

The author of "the first 20 hours book" Josh Kaufman was always very eager to learn new things in his life but when when he became father he was not able to take time out of his life to learn something new and for this he started researching about how to learn as quick as possible. And came up with the findings that ONE CAN EASILY LEARN ANYTHING IN JUST 20 HOURS. yes that's true.
But in order to learn there are some rules that author has described in his book.
Today I'm going to tell you about the 5 rules to learn anything in just 20 hours.

1. Set target performance level
Whenever you want to learn something you need to have an aim in mind that why you want to learn this specific skill? And how good want it to be? For example you need to learn guitar just to relax after working hard or to have good times when you hangout with friends. And how good you want it to be is just you need to learn those 5-6 chords through which you can play some of your favourite songs. Now why is it important? Because there are so many types in guitaring like rhythm guitar, bass guitar, lead guitar etc and you can get confused if you don't know why you want to learn and how good you want it to be?

2. Deconstruction of skills
When the author decided to learn Ukulele primarily he decided to learn how to tune the strings. After that he learnt from a band that you can play 50 famous pop songs with only 4 chords so he decided to learn those 4 chords only and divided them into subskills like holding Ukulele, finger movement and strumming etc. And interestingly the results were amazing that he even performed in his TEDTalks
LINK HERE you also need to watch this
It is like 80/20 rule. Which says that you get 80% of results from 20% of your efforts or things.
So divide the skill into different sub components and start from the most important one. You are ready to go.

3. Research just enough
In an experiment there were 2 groups A and B and they were asked to make pots. Group A was asked to make as much pots as you can to have good marks accordingly. On the other hand Group B was asked to make only one pot and their marks would depend on the quality of that one pot. When results came Group B made a good pot with really good quality through their extensive reseach while Group A not only made many pots of same quality and shape but they also made several other pots of different shapes with good quality through Trial and Error.
What we have learnt from this is that Action produces results not research. Which means that we spend most of our time in doing research but we give very less amount of time in practising.
So if you want to learn something research only that amount which would be feasible for you to practise because at the end practise makes a man perfect.

4. Removing Barriers
If you want to learn something in 20 hours is not much difficult because if you practise 40 minutes a days you will end up learning it in a month but Focus and Concentration is very important in those 40 minutes because it is the main element of learning. In order to do so
You need to do 2 things
a. Avoid distractions means turn off tv, put your phone on silent and isolate yourself from anyother distraction which has the capability to move your focus.
b. Remove the Barriers means making it easy for you to learn for example you need to learn guitar so for this don't just put that guitar in a nice bag and put it away after practising rather put it in front of that place where you practise so you can just start practising in no time.

5. Pre commit 20 hours
It means that you will give atleast 20 hours to learn the particular skill no matter what happens. There are two very important reasons behind this
1. You will get to know that is it really important for you to give 20 hours from your life and learn that skill if not then change the skill through which you can have progress in life.
2. If you commit yourself for 20 hours then it will take you out of those frustrations which take place when someone starts learning anything new. No one wants to look stupid because everyone wants to do things at their best so they can get appreciation but getting frustrated and looking stupid is a part of learning something new so for this reason when you commit 20 hours it will reduce those frustrations which can stop you learning something new.
After that you will enjoy learning and you will see the results which will motivate you in moving forward.

Most of the times barriers to learn anything new are emotional barriers and these 5 rules can break those emotional barriers.
So don't waste time lets do it.
But first let me know in the comments below that which skills you want to learn.

BONUS TIPS
you can divide those 40 minutes into 20, 20 minutes a day be making 2 sessions
Motorskills like playing guitar or typing gets better when you practise them at night. There is a scientific reason behind that and author Josh Kaufman did the same.
